Bethany Casey is a director in our Litigation team in Leeds.

Bethany specialises in a range of commercial real estate litigation, including dilapidations claims, development disputes, breach of covenant issues, possession claims and portfolio management.

Bethany has a particular specialism in land compensation matters, including claims for compensation arising from the compulsory acquisition of land, claims brought under Part 1 of the Land Compensation Act 1973, and issues arising in the utility sector.

Bethany primarily acts for companies, government bodies, local authorities and statutory undertakers. Her experience encompasses a range of sectors, including retail/food, infrastructure and energy/utilities.

Bethany has been ranked as a Rising Star in the Legal 500 UK directory and acknowledged for being “absolutely stand out” and “brilliant with clients”.

  • Acting for Signet Group (H Samuel and Ernest Jones), YUM! Brands (KFC and Pizza Hut) and AG Retail Cards (Clintons Cards) in relation to contentious property issues affecting their nationwide portfolio.
  • Acting for a charitable body with a large commercial freehold property portfolio, specifically dealing with instigating and progressing lease renewals.
  • Advising several major UK airport operators (Manchester Airport Group, Birmingham Airport) in relation to the management of claims and in respect of their strategy for dealing with claims for compensation under Part 1 of the Land Compensation Act 1973.
  • Acting for waste management companies in respect of compulsory purchase compensation claims, including land value and disturbance claims.
  • Advising several landlords and private management companies on a range of residential tenancy disputes, including the recovery of possession of properties let under Assured Shorthold tenancies, defending tenancy deposit proceedings brought under the Housing Act 1988 and the recovery of residential service charge arrears.
  • Acting for corporate landowner in respect of a Reference of a Blight Notice to the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber).
  • Successfully delivering vacant possession in the enforcement of CPO powers for Gosport Borough Council for a major redevelopment site.
  • Acting for a large private student accommodation company in various residential tenancy disputes, including possession proceedings, tenancy deposit proceedings and breach of covenant disputes.
